to emit colder air. The operator had to raise the set-point of the evaporators a degree and a half in order to not freeze the lettuce in the coldroom. The effect of those long drinks from the high side was causing the compressor capacity to be wasted, drawing off the flash gas from the liquid make up. So, by investigating a sound and resolving a potential unsafe situation, the liquid hammer was resolved and the cost of refrigeration reduced. The knowledge of the danger of hydraulic shock came through my access to people who know of such things.
