RETA IS WORKING TO ADD HVACR TO ANAB ACCREDITATION
R ETA has invested 23 years in earning and maintaining its accreditation for CARO and CIRO by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB). RETA added CRST in 2018 and it was added to the list of ANAB-accredited credentials in 2022. RETA credentials are seen worldwide as the Gold Standard in industrial refrigeration because no other parallel programs meet ANSI 17024 Standards. Publication of the first update of RETA RSES HVACR books this summer will support the first of several new credentials that will be designed as additions to RETA’s ANAB list. These programs may help create clear pathways to support careers spanning all levels of refrigeration. Three events in 2002 helped launch RETA on this path. • ANSI announced the initial 17024 Standards in April 2002. • Industrial refrigeration training standards emerged from a joint conference sponsored by RETA, IIAR and IARW in June 2002. RETA accelerated its efforts to upgrade CARO and CIRO to meet ANSI 17024 Standards in the fall of 2002 by hiring an Accreditation Manager and Psychometrician to guide them to meet these requirements. •
RETA submitted its application for ANSI accreditation of CARO and CIRO in 2007 and was approved in March 2008. The diagram summarizes ANSI 17024 Standards that RETA must meet each year. RETA conducts internal audits of its management system, certification structure, operations and results each year to document how it is continuing to maintain
its ANAB accreditation. While exams are essential to accreditation, they are only one part of the ANAB process. External auditors from ANAB then verify that RETA is meeting all ANSI 17024 Standards each year. The process starts fresh every five years with a new application and the assignment of two new ANAB assessors who conduct annual reviews. RETA will
