W hile sitting in a national board meeting, Jeremy Murfin—or as I know him, “Murf”—made a statement that really hit home with me: “I am looking to find the next me!” As I roll things through my head about the statement he made, I think, “Man, this is a real deep thought.” I went as far as mak ing the statement that the old guy that is in the mirror when I brush my teeth in the morning tells me that I am not as good as I once was, but I don’t see him throughout most of my day until I do something stupid, like climbing a ladder, or lifting heavy things. We are not getting any younger, so this is a great thing that we all need to look at.

Thirty-one years ago, I was the young punk in the ammonia field that was fearless and did not know how to tap out. Now, that old guy in the mirror tells me every day about how stupid I was for a number of years. So, this is a challenge to all you techs out there: find one person and train them in the do’s and don’ts of this wonderful industry. Industrial refrigeration is not a glorious life, but it sure beats some of the other stuff they could do for a living. A little back story about me: I was an aver age student in school and snuck by with a C average. I’ve spent a lot of time doing “hard knocks” learning. I just wish I had found out about RETA at a younger age.
