RETA TESTING CORNER NO. 17 VERSION 2
RETA’s Testing and ANSI Guru
Dr. Ron Rodgers, RETA’s Psychometrician (testing expert) and ANSI Accreditation Manager, has guided development of all RETA credentialing exams since 2002. RETA Testing Corner provides information and answers questions from RETA members, candidates and others to help them earn and benefit from RETA credentials.
RETA offers candidates for CARO, CIRO and CRST two major resources to help them earn these RETA credentials. • The study guide for each test provides a content outline, a list of sources that support questions on each test, information to help candidates learn to navigate the on-screen references that appear next to questions during each test, and copies of the references that will appear on-screen next to the questions during their exam. • The practice test for each credential allows candidates to experience the types of questions that are on each test and to refine their skills in finding specific information in the on-screen references that appear next to questions during each test. RETA study guides can be downloaded and printed free from the Certification section on the RETA website. Practice tests can be purchased online in the RETA bookstore. Candidates may take the practice tests as often as they wish for $59 per attempt. RETA candidates must decide when to use on-screen references during each test. Qualified operators and technicians should know when to consult such references to limit an ammonia release or other system emergencies, to prevent injury to

themselves or other personnel, and to improve system safety and efficiency by recommending maintenance and/ or making adjustments in system operations. Candidates should be as familiar with these sources as they are with manuals for equipment in the facilities they operate, service or support. Each RETA test asks questions about safety standards and procedures. Some of these questions are answered
in an Ammonia Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that appears in the on-screen references. Candidates who score below 70% often answer some of these questions incorrectly because they did not use the SDS effectively during their test. The CRST Study Guide and on-screen references provide the following resources for candidates to use during their exam. • Formulas to interpret or compute
