2020 RETA Breeze Jan-Feb

relevant information that appears in test questions • Screens that document refrigeration system operating conditions that may require corrective actions or maintenance to improve system safety and efficiency • Diagrams that support questions about system operations and controls • Ammonia Saturated Properties tables • An Ammonia Safety Data Sheet (SDS) CARO and CIRO on-screen references match the content of each exam. Content outlines and references are identified in the CARO, CIRO and CRST study guides. Candidates may take the CRST, CIRO and CARO Practice Tests online on computers at home or work. A current version of Adobe Reader that supports navigating within the references PDF also is required to take each test.   The CARO and CIRO practice tests have 50 questions each. The CRST practice test has 75 questions. Each practice test has a 90-minute time limit – half the time permitted to take CARO, CIRO or CRST. This can help candidates practice the pace needed to complete the three-hour exam for each credential. RETA’s Certification Committee (CertComm) defines each test with a survey of experienced operators, supervisors, consultants and managers

in industrial refrigeration. Each test requires a total score of at least 70% to pass. Practice test score reports also inform candidates what to study to improve their chances of scoring 70% or higher on sections on which they scored below that level in a practice test. CertComm validates all CARO, CIRO and CRST questions before they can appear in RETA certification exams. Practice test questions do not appear in current full-length CARO, CIRO or CRST exams. CertComm members are experienced industrial refrigeration operators, designers, manufacturers and tech support consultants. ANSI Standards do not allow instructors who prepare candidates for RETA exams to serve on CertComm. Instructors may serve on the Education Committee, which prepares RETA books. Current CertComm members have from seven to over 50 years of refrigeration experience. CertComm members also are in 14 of RETA’s 48 chapters in nine states.
